Check the printer and connection
Make sure the printer is powered on and check its screen for paper, ink or other alerts. For a USB connection, check both ends of the cable. For a network printer, confirm the computer and printer are connected to the intended network; guest networks can prevent devices from communicating.
Review the selected printer
Choose the correct HP model when printing. A computer can retain an older printer entry after a network change. Check whether a paused job or a stuck print queue is preventing a new document from printing. Save your work before restarting the computer or printer.
Prepare for assistance
Have the model number, operating system, connection type and exact error message ready. Tell us whether the printer previously worked and what changed. Do not send passwords or payment-card details through chat.
When hardware service may be needed
A persistent printer-screen error, paper-feed fault or physical damage may require hardware service. Contact Product Assistance to discuss the issue and confirm the appropriate next step; an online troubleshooting session is not a guarantee of repair.
